Tawapata South Incorporation is a Māori agri-business based in Mahia, New Zealand.

Mission:
Our whakapapa connects us to our whenua, our moana and the tāonga we have responsibility for, we will manage our relationships in a away that achieves the well-being of our lands, waters and people

Summary: 
Tawapata discovered in the 10th century by our tīpuna, Tamatea-Ariki-Nui, Ruawharo and Tūpai, navigators of the Pacific, origins of our whakapapa here in Tawapata, derived from Hawaiiki, retained by our people to this day, leading how business is done with Māori whenua by incorporation in 1954. Today we have the biggest farm in Mahia, with traditional farming of Cattle, Sheep and Wool, including an unique business relationship with Rocket Lab.
 
Our role as an incorporation is to sustain the natural taonga that is the taiao of Tawapata South and Waikawa Island, for the betterment of the whenua, moana, taonga and our people.

Marina Toatoa is of Rongomaiwahine, Ngāti Kahungunu, Ngāti Tuwharetoa and Ngāpuhi descent.  Marina has worked 20+ years in the banking industry, her current role is in the regulatory compliance space, providing analysis services for the development of effective solutions for business initiatives, as a Business Analyst.  Living in Melbourne for 14yrs, Marina returned to Hastings, Hawkes Bay in 2017.  With her banking experience and qualifications she will support the upliftment of the current portfolio and strategy for Tawapata South and Waikawa, working towards sustainability for Tawapata & Waikawa’s taiao and viability of all opportunities Tawapata South Inc may engage. 

Dean Whaanga: Dean descends from Rongomaiwahine, Ngati Kahungunu, Rakaipāka, Ngai Tu, Ngai Tarewa, Ngai Te Rakato, Nga Hikairo, Ngai Tama and is current Chair for the Tawapata South and Waikawa Inc.  Dean has experienced an extensive and successful military career, coupled with a relatively long sojourn with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office of the British Diplomatic Corps travelling extensively. Dean now lives in Mahia on a lifestyle block, a small motel business and works for Mann Associates as a security officer for the RocketLab Contract.  Dean holds an International Diploma in Business Management. Dean also is a local Honorary Fisheries Officer, Deputy Chief Fire Officer Nuhaka Brigade, Kaitiaki – Te Hoe, Justice of the Peace, Chair of the Ihaka Whaanga Whanau Trust, Trustee of Te Hononga o Nga Awa, Trustee of Ruawharo Marae Board of Trustees, Treasurer Nuhaka VFB.  Dean is married to Lorna, has two adult children, 3 mokopuna.

Murray McGregor  Born and raised in Wairoa.  I live in Gisborne, married with 3 adult children and 5 mokopuna.  I have whakapapa links to Te Aitanga a Mahaki, Rongowhakaata, Ngāi Tamānuhiri, Rakaipaaka, Rongomaiwahine, Kahungunu ki te Wairoa and Ngāti Pahauwera.  My working career started in Gisborne as a clerical cadet in the Department of Māori Affairs under the Māori Affairs trade training scheme until the devolution of the Department into the Ministry of Justice for 35 years almost entirely in the Māori Land Court.  I also worked in the Māori Trust Office for 7 years.  I currently work for the Ministry of Māori Development (Te Puni Kōkiri) as an advisor.  I have spent my entire working life working with and for Māori land owners.  I am also a committee member on several other Māori incorporations as well as a trustee on an Ahu Whenua Trust.  I am a Justice of the Peace and Marriage Celebrant.

FAMILY
I was raised in the knowledge that there is only one God and our saviour is Jesus Christ and families are everything. I am the second of 10 siblings. Married to the queen of Bridge Pa, another daughter of Rongomaiwahine. We have 5 children and 10 mokopuna. Dad was a shearer & fencer. Mum worked in the fields, orchards and packhouses. Our parents worked long hard hours and taught us kids the same principle.

ASPIRATIONS AS TRUSTEE
● Continue to protect ownership of Incorporation lands and assets.
● Help grow and develop assets and new opportunities.
● Increase benefits to all shareholders.

Robyn Tomlinson Robyn is the appointed Secretary/Accountant for Tawapata South and has worked extensively with the Committee since 2012.  Robyn is one of two partners at Coates Associates Chartered Accountants and prior to studying Accountancy, Robyn completed a Bachelor of Horticultural Science at Massey University.  Having worked alongside Maori organisations since the 1990s, Robyn has wide ranging experience in assisting with Maori business and governance matters.  As a descendant of Ngāti Kahungunu, Rakaipaaka, Robyn feels very privileged to be engaged by the Incorporation.  Robyn is married to Mark and they have 3 children.  In her spare time Robyn likes to play tennis, travel, watch her children’s sport and spend time at their family bach in Mahia.
