Rawe pānui i tēnei wiki, Zac Penman of the department of conservation, found on the 24 May 2023, a near extinct Te Matau a Māui moko (skink) on Waikawa, Zac has sent images to Samuel Purdie Wildlife, whose team has determined the find, is indeed, the endangered moko, which until now, was not known to live on Waikawa.

Further notification to the wildlife community will be pursued. It is beautiful to see, Waikawa is home to such an ancient taonga.
